Anger and Fear
Kit Jones, M.Ed., L.P.C.

All of us have experienced fear in our lives. If we did not have someone teach us early on how to respond to fear in a healthy, functional way, we may have converted that fear into anger or even rage.

The way it often works is that we feel afraid and vulnerable to harm, especially if we have actually been harmed as children. It can be difficult to operate in the wider world if we are showing our vulnerability to others who may or may not have our best interest at heart.

So, we learn to put on a mask or coat of armor consisting of angry or hateful behavior to protect ourselves from the feared harm. We must learn ways of coping with our fears in a healthy way in order to let go of our protective coat of anger and connect with others in a satisfying and meaningful way.
